Debra is an experienced educator and counselor. Debra grew up in Pittsburgh, PA. With a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and a minor in Education, she began her career as a teacher, gaining valuable insights into the classroom environment. Recognizing the importance of fostering emotional well-being and the need for implementing executive functioning skills, she pursued a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology.

In her impressive 33-year career, Debra has held various roles, including science department head, mentor, and school counselor. Her diverse experience extends beyond the classroom, as she has also coached various sports teams. With a deep understanding of the educational landscape, Debra firmly believes that building strong relationships with students is paramount to their success. By providing support and fostering a sense of love and encouragement, Debra empowers her students to overcome challenges and find satisfaction in their achievements.

​In her spare time, Debra indulges in her passions for tennis, pickleball, and quilting. She also enjoys spending quality time with her two dogs, Finn and Cooper. With her extensive background in education, counseling expertise, and dedication to student well-being, Debra is a valuable resource for students and their families alike.

What does “structure creates freedom” mean to you?

Having a framework that allows students to have predictability, reduces anxiety,, which allows students to feel more in control which allows them to take great risks.

What’s a small win you love seeing students experience?

When they plan their work and work their plan and have success - like planning out a long term project and following the schedule and finish early with little stress.

How would you describe your coaching style in three words?

Compassionate, direct, and holistic.

What was your favorite class in school?

Science.

Who is one person you admire?

Jane Goodall - her life story was amazing.

What’s your reset ritual after a long week?

I like either being outside and active, playing pickleball or spending time in nature, or sitting down to finish a quilting

project.

If you could unplug anywhere for a week, where would it be?

Canyon Ranch or some place like that!
