Jen Cohen

Coach

Jen Cohen always knew that her career would involve helping kids in some way. She earned a B.S. in Communication Sciences and Disorders with a minor in Human Development and Family Studies from Penn State University. From there, she returned home to Phoenix, Arizona and began working at Southwest Autism Research and Resource Center as a Clinical Behavior Interventionist. In that role, she worked with autistic kids and adults of all ages and their families, as a parent trainer. This experience sparked her passion for helping students learn and grow through creative and real-world experiences. She earned her Master of Education with a focus in behavior from Arizona State University, and decided to bring her expertise into the general education classroom where she taught kindergarten, third, and fourth grade.

With the belief that everyone is a lifelong learner, Jen strives to provide students with the tools they need to be successful both at school and in life. She likes to focus on the importance of social-emotional learning, growth, fostering positive relationships, and ensuring students have the strategies they need to overcome life’s challenges.

Get to Know Jen...

What does “structure creates freedom” mean to you?

Having more time and brain power to do the fun stuff without having a daunting task looming.

What’s a small win you love seeing students experience?

All of them; it takes small wins to get to big ones. I love when students tell me that they already have something written down or that they tried one of the new strategies that was suggested and it helped them.

How would you describe your coaching style in three words?

Relatable (I think/hope lol), realistic/authentic and conversational.

What was your favorite class in school?

In college it was human development. Middle school and high school was probably science.

Who is one person you admire?

I admire a lot of things about a lot of different people. I think it is important to remember that everyone is human and has flaws just like I do regardless if there are things about them that I admire.

What’s your reset ritual after a long week?

Reading a good book, SLEEPING and spending time with family (ideally outside).

If you could unplug anywhere for a week, where would it be?

Anywhere/everywhere with nice weather, culture/history, and places to explore.
