What does “structure creates freedom” mean to you?

Structure is like the guardrails on a backroad in Western KY! You don’t notice them until you need them, but they keep you from ending up in a ditch. When my students have clear routines and systems, their brains don’t have to work overtime figuring out what to do next. That’s where the freedom comes in, they get to focus on learning, creating, and actually enjoying success.

What’s a small win you love seeing students experience?

When a student catches themselves before I have to step in—like they check their planner, start their work, or regulate their emotions on their own. That little pause where you can see the strategy click? That’s the moment I live for. It’s quiet, but it’s powerful.

How would you describe your coaching style in three words?

Relational. Encouraging. Honest.

(I’m going to cheer you on—but I’m also going to tell you the truth and help you get better.)

What was your favorite class in school?

Well, as a math teacher I suppose I’m legally obligated to say math... and I do love it. But if we’re being honest, weight lifting had my heart too. Nothing like getting stronger and faster to make you feel like you could take on anything!

Who is one person you admire?

My high school soccer coach, no question. That man taught me more than just how to win games—he drilled punctuality, grit, determination, integrity, humility, and leadership into us like it was part of the playbook. Turns out, those are life skills, not just soccer skills.

What’s your reset ritual after a long week?

Give me a cozy house, some time in the Word, and my family. That’s my reset. No fancy spa needed—just love, laughter, and maybe a quiet minute with coffee before anyone wakes up asking for snacks.

If you could unplug anywhere for a week, where would it be?

An exotic, all-inclusive spot with my husband and our best friends—no lesson plans, no alarms, no one asking me where their shoes are. Just sunshine, good food, and the kind of rest that fills your cup all the way back up.
