Monique Hernandez

Coach

Monique was born and raised in La Habra, Southern California, and has dreamed of becoming a teacher ever since she was a child. She earned her bachelor's degree in History from the University of California, Riverside. A few years later, she followed her passion for education by moving to Arizona, where she received her master's degree in Education from Arizona State University.

Before joining the OPPTEmizer™ coaching team, Monique worked as a middle school special education teacher for two years. During that time, she supported students with a wide range of learning needs, helping them build confidence, develop strong academic skills, and discover that they were capable of achieving more than they thought possible. One of the most rewarding parts of teaching was watching her students grow into successful, independent learners.

Outside of work, Monique loves spending time with her fiancé , daughter and their dog. In her free time, she enjoys watching football with her fiancé (Go Bills!) and taking their dog on long walks.

What does “structure creates freedom” mean to you?

To me, structure creates freedom because having a plan and solid routines helps you spend less time feeling overwhelmed and more time doing the things you enjoy. When you have structure, it's easier to stay on track while still making room for fun and balance.

What’s a small win you love seeing students experience?

I love seeing that moment when a student asks for help, sticks with it, and finally masters a skill they once thought was too hard. Their confidence grows so much from that success!

How would you describe your coaching style in three words?

Organized, fun, and supportive.

What was your favorite class in school?

Social studies! I loved learning about history and understanding how the past shapes the world we live in today.

Who is one person you admire?

My grandma, Anna. She has always been a source of strength, kindness, and encouragement in my life.

What’s your reset ritual after a long week?

Taking my dog on a long walk is my favorite way to recharge and enjoy some fresh air.

If you could unplug anywhere for a week, where would it be?

Puerto Rico! I would love to relax on the beach, enjoy the beautiful scenery, and soak up the sunshine.
